Llama Package Progress and Final Product

Image
Llama Building Progress Photos  Llama Package Final  Comments: Some difficulties and lessons that we encountered with laser cutting and building the llama package were: Matching the dimension of the llama's body to the secondary inner component, as well as the poster paper. Printing the Rhino files on regular paper to visualize actual dimensions before laser cutting might be helpful for future projects.  Understanding the requirements for the laser cutter, such as the maximum size of the paper that can be placed in the machine, arranging the parts on Rhino so there is a 5mm border, and all items are at least 2mm (to avoid burning away while being laser cut) Grouping the cut and score lines to ensure they move all together when arranging them for print Proper gluing techniques are used so the paper tabs stay together and don't fall off later. Using tape and small binder clips helped apply consistent pressure.  Building the llama allowed us to see areas that nee...

Llama Package Design Concept

Image
Item Chosen For Packaging  To begin creating a unique package, our team brainstormed ideas for items that could act as the product or content of the package. From there, we considered what packages would best suit this item. Below is an image of the object chosen by our group, a miniature Llama. Our team member KK photographed the item alongside a ruler to better understand the llama's size.  Designs for Package While discussing package design ideas, our team member OZ created the preliminary sketches for the package. The sketch was inspired by a llama package that would "give birth" to the miniature llama in the picture above. Images of llama pinata designs inspired the outside of the llama package. The back portion of the llama is a detachable piece that can be pulled out and holds the miniature llama. The interior of the package would have anatomical drawings of the female llama's reproductive organs, as well as paper structures attached to give the impression of a...

Flower and Leaf Coat Hook

Image
Final Sketch This is a sketch of the final design for a flower and leaf coat hook, with a more detailed flower extending from the middle and two curled leaves extending from the sides. The plate, which will be attached to the wall with two screws on the top and bottom, has an oval shape with a concave surface to add to the organic and natural design. If this design is printed with the back of this coat hook as the base of the 3D print, moving upwards to printing till the top of the flower may reduce the support material needed. Extending the flower and leaf sections straight out of the coat hook base could eliminate the need for support material. Screenshots of the 3D Modelling Process To begin the modelling process, I sketched out the different sections of the Flower and Leaf Coat Hook. I simplified them into basic geometric shapes to explore which commands might be helpful in building or carving the structure as needed.  Then, I started working ...
